Geraniums

Geraniums are a big seller every summer and are one of the most popular bedding and balcony plants. Nevertheless, they have a reputation for being a little old-fashioned or stuffy. We invite you to discover new, lesser-known facets of this beautiful sun-worshipper with us.

Something for every wish

In recent years, the classic geraniums in red, white and pink have been joined by more and more varieties that stand out with upbeat colours and particularly beautifully shaped flowers. Whether bicoloured, orange, yellow or bluish-purple - the new geranium varieties no longer have much in common with the familiar farmhouse beauties and are also in demand among younger people as decoration in modern or elegantly designed outdoor areas. They are available from well-stocked nurseries or florists. Hanging geraniums, which can produce shoots up to 1.50 metres long, are particularly suitable for balcony boxes, hanging baskets and other suspended containers. With their almost unsurpassable variety of colours and shapes, these so-called peltatas create an impressive long-distance effect. Upright geraniums, known as zonals in the trade, are just as floriferous and diverse as hanging geraniums - they are also available as tall stems, for example. And did you know that ground cover varieties are now even available? You can use them to transform your flower beds into colourful carpets of flowers!

On the wall or in a glass

These warmth-loving plants naturally feel particularly at home on sunny balconies. You can also plant geraniums in a box together with hussar buttons, cape baskets and male's fritillary, verbena, magic bells or zinnias. In a Mediterranean style, the combination with grasses or herbs such as sage, rosemary or lavender creates a beautiful eye-catcher. If you are not allowed to install balcony boxes or there is not enough space on the floor for large pots, you can also choose a clever space-saving option: namely geraniums as wall decorations! Simply attach colourfully planted flower pots to the wall. With the right decoration, even the smallest balcony can be transformed into a cosy oasis of well-being. And if you are expecting unexpected guests, you can quickly create a modern table decoration with picked flower stems. To do this, simply place individual stems in small decorative glass containers and place them next to each other on a round tray - your guests have probably never seen geraniums like this before!
