Upcycling idea: create DIY mason jar vases
It always takes place on the last Sunday in June - the international Lonely Bouquet Day. All over Germany, many florists as well as private individuals put out small bouquets of flowers to bring someone unexpected joy with a small gesture. Would you like to spread joy with us? We have come up with a simple DIY idea to inspire you so that the surprise is guaranteed to be a success:
You don't need to invest a lot of time or money to put the little arrangements in a pretty vase. Thanks to a lovely upcycling idea, simple preserving jars can be turned into flowery vases that are the perfect place for the flowers and are guaranteed to bring a smile to the face of their finder.
Materials required:
- Preserving jars with lids
- Chalk colours (or other leftover colours)
- Acrylic colours for the flower pattern
- Brushes in different sizes
- Metal drill (size 8-10)
- Various flowers (you can get these from your local florist)
- Lonely Bouquet Day tag
Instructions for the DIY vases
Step 1: Paint the mason jar with chalk paint
Clean the jars beforehand and remove any old labels. Then paint the bottom two thirds of the jar with the chalk paint using a slightly wider brush. Don't paint the edges too precisely, but with a slight wave shape, which gives a more creative end result. Leave to dry well.
Step 2: Painting the preserving jar with flowers
Use a smaller brush to paint various small flowers on the jar. A few flowers can also grow beyond the area previously painted with chalk paint. Also leave to dry well.
Step 3: Convert the lid into a plug-in aid
So that you don't need too many flowers for a lavish bouquet, the lid of the preserving jar can be used as a kind of insertion aid. To do this, carefully drill several holes in the lid using a metal drill.
Tip: Screw an unpainted preserving jar under the lid to catch any metal shavings, which can then be disposed of easily and cleanly.
Step 4: Attach the greeting message
Finally, fill the mini vase with water, arrange individual flowers in the holes and attach the Lonely Bouquet tag to the jar with a piece of yarn.
Done!
These little "happiness makers" are of course not only a great gift for Lonely Bouquet Day, but also a great way to say thank you.
