Are you looking for a creative Christmas tree alternative that you can lean against the wall? This Christmas tree not only looks classy, but is also sustainable and environmentally friendly, as the basic framework can be perfectly reused. We'll show you how to build your own DIY Christmas tree and decorate it with amaryllis and eucalyptus.

Materials required:

  • 1.70 m long spruce slats
  • Drill incl. 5 mm drill bit for wood
  • cord
  • nails
  • hammer
  • Eucalyptus*
  • Blue cypress*
  • Silver wire
  • Milk glasses
  • White cord
  • White amaryllis*
  • Small paper stars in white if required
*You can obtain these materials from your local florist.

Step by step to your alternative Christmas tree:

Step 1: Prepare the spruce slats

Set up the spruce slats once to try them out and see exactly where you want to place the Christmas tree later. Mark the points for the holes where you want to connect the slats with the cord.

Step 2: Drill the holes

Then drill the holes in the spruce slats. In our tree, we drilled two holes in the front slats and one hole in each of the rear slats.

Step 3: Connect the spruce slats together

Pull the cord through the holes and fasten the spruce slats in front of or behind the construction with a knot, depending on your preference.

Step 4: Fasten the nails

In this step, we will focus on attaching the garland. This will later be attached to the spruce slats using nails. We recommend that you first hold the cord to the slats in the way you want to position the garland later. It is therefore best to get help for this step. It is easier to judge where the nails are best positioned with two people so that the Christmas tree is evenly decorated with greenery later on. Then fix the nails into the spruce slats.

Step 5: Tie the garland

Now we turn to the garland. Firstly, prepare the blue cypress and eucalyptus and cut them to size. Then tie the individual small branches together to form a garland using silver wire.

Step 6: Arranging the garland

Now attach the garland to the previously attached nails.

Step 7: Attach the milk jars

Fill the milk jars with water and attach them to the frame as desired using the white cord.

Step 8: Decorate the Christmas tree with amaryllis

Add the amaryllis in the final step. We opted for white amaryllis as it makes the tree look even more elegant in combination with the other materials used.

That's it!

If you like, you can now add small accents, e.g. in the form of small white paper stars, and place your presents under the tree. It's so easy to make your own Christmas tree alternative. We hope you enjoy trying out this craft idea!
