Halloween ideas
In October, nature has many beautiful gifts in store for us with its colourful play of colours, which can be used to conjure up beautiful decorations with a few simple steps. Colourful leaves collected on walks, fiery red berries and crunchy nuts, cones and chestnuts provide plenty of material for crafting. With pretty wreaths on the door, autumnal arrangements on the dining table and bright lanterns made from physalis, your own four walls can be embellished and made cosy in no time at all. The classic autumn decoration is, of course, the popular pumpkin lantern. Especially for the upcoming Halloween festival on 31 October, little ghosts in disguise look forward to spooky pumpkin heads. Simply hollow out the inside of a large pumpkin and carve a spooky face into the outside wall. Decorated with a wreath of flowers and fitted with a string of LED lights, the Halloween pumpkin creates an eerily beautiful atmosphere in the garden or in front of the house, especially in the evening. To help you make your own spooky pumpkin lantern, we have put together a little guide for you here. Have fun with it!

Instructions for the pumpkin lantern - we show you how it's done:
Step 1: Prepare the pumpkin
First, carefully cut open the top of the pumpkin with a knife in a zig-zag line. Then remove the lid and scoop out the inside of the pumpkin with a large spoon. If possible, there should be no moist flesh left in the pumpkin. Then draw the desired face on the outside of the pumpkin with a pencil and carefully cut it out with a knife.
Our recipe tip: The pumpkin flesh can be used to make a delicious pumpkin soup.
Step 2: Making a flower wreath
The next step is to make an autumnal flower wreath from chrysanthemums, heather tips, lavender and wheat. To do this, cut the flowers to a length of approx. 10 cm, stagger them and then wrap them with wire. Work your way slowly until the resulting chain of flowers is long enough to fit snugly on the pumpkin head. Then tie them together with wire to form a round wreath.
For the fairy lights, take the individual physalis flowers, insert half of the small fairy lights and loop them around the wreath of flowers. The illuminated headdress for the pumpkin face is finished.
Done!
Now you can carefully place the flower wreath on the pumpkin. Place the remaining lights in the pumpkin and hide them there together with the battery box. The pumpkin head looks particularly beautiful in the dark, of course.
Tip: Let the pumpkin dry out properly beforehand. After carving, dab it with kitchen paper and then rub the inside with vinegar and then with Vaseline. This prevents mould and you can enjoy your homemade pumpkin face for a long time.
