Hydrangeas can be used for decorative purposes in a variety of ways. Depending on the hydrangea variety, they bloom from June to September in the colours white, blue, red, pink, purple or green. Dried hydrangeas are also great for autumn decorations.

For this table decoration, we have used the colours blue, purple and green to create a decoration with hydrangeas that invites you to linger at the dining table. The selected colours are perfect for an exceptionally beautiful Sunday breakfast or for a cheerfully decorated birthday table.

Materials required:

  • Hydrangea flowers (you can get these from your local florist)
  • Cylinder glass jar
  • Jute twine
  • scissors
  • bird sand
  • Stick candle

Make your own decorations with hydrangeas - we'll show you how:

Step 1: Attach jute twine to the glass

In the first step, tie the jute cord once around the glass and secure it at the end with a knot. Make sure that the jute cord is firmly attached to the glass, otherwise the decoration with the hydrangeas will slide down the glass later.

Important: Do not cut off the longer end of the jute cord as this is needed for the second step.

Step 2: Attach the hydrangea flowers to the glass one by one

To decorate with hydrangeas, go around the glass again with the longer end of the jute cord, gradually attaching the individual hydrangea flowers between the two cords.

Step 3: Finish off the hydrangea decoration with a knot at the end

The hydrangea decoration is finished with a knot once you have worked your way round the glass with the hydrangeas. When tying the knot, make sure that the jute cord is firmly attached to the glass. This way, if a hydrangea slips between the strings, you can easily work it back into the desired position.

Step 4: Fill the cylinder jar with bird sand

The penultimate step is to fill the glass container with bird sand. Make sure that you don't use too little bird sand - the sand should give your candle a secure footing in the jar.

Step 5: Add the candle

Now just add a stick candle of your choice of colour and fix it in place using the bird sand. Last but not least, you can push the hydrangea decoration to the desired height if required so that it can really come into its own alongside the beautiful candlelight.

That's it!

Tip: The hydrangea decoration can also be easily transformed into a table decoration for the wedding, for example by choosing classic white hydrangeas for the table decoration. Dried hydrangeas would also make a beautiful autumn table decoration. Hydrangea flowers in blue and green are particularly suitable for dried hydrangea decorations. No matter what you choose, this simple decoration always works!
