Instructions for DIY fabric napkins with a floral print - we'll show you how it's done:
Step 1: Select flowers
Select the flowers you would like to print on the fabric. Tip: test which flowers make a nice print on a separate fabric beforehand. With some flowers only the individual petals work, with others the whole flower. Some flowers also print more intensely than others.
Step 2: Apply the flower pattern
Position the individual blossoms or whole flowers in the desired pattern on the fabric. Place the blossom or flower face down on the fabric. For example, you can lay the flowers in a kind of bouquet (as shown here in the picture) or simply individually in a wild pattern. There are no limits to your imagination here.
Step 3: "Hammer" the flowers onto the fabric
To transfer the flower pattern to the fabric, first carefully slide the wooden board under the fabric with the flower pattern. If a few flowers slip, simply adjust them again. Then place the transparent film over the flowers and carefully hammer each individual flower until it has completely moulded to the fabric. Press the film down firmly by hand.
The right pressure is crucial when hammering: if it is too gentle, the flower will not be transferred to the fabric properly, if it is too firm, the flower will be crushed too much. Here, too, you should try it out on a test piece first. Once all the flowers and petals have been hammered, carefully remove the cling film. Allow the flower remnants to dry slightly on the fabric and then carefully rub off. If you like, you can fix the print by ironing.
And that's it!
The finished napkins can now be decorated on the beautifully laid birthday table. It looks particularly beautiful if you tie the napkins together with a matching ribbon and decorate them with a few flowers from the birthday bouquet. To do this, simply fold the napkin together and secure it with the ribbon. Either fold the napkin into a rectangle and fasten it in the centre with the ribbon so that it looks like a bow.
Alternatively, cut the napkin into quarters, then fold in two corners slightly to create a more rounded shape. Secure the bottom corner with a ribbon so that the napkin looks like a small bouquet of flowers. Simply slide small flowers under the ribbon as a highlight. That's it! The finished DIY flower napkins can also be used as a birthday present.
